Isn’t counselling just talking? How can just talking about a problem help? Some people find it difficult to believe that discussing their problems with a psychologist can make any difference to the situation.
But counselling is first of all about listening. Sometimes a person’s greatest need is for another person to take the time to listen to what’s on their mind. Family members and friends might listen a bit but may feel a need to give advice, often without hearing the person out. Many people have benefited greatly from going to see a counsellor who has done no more than listen to them and validate them as a person. Here at Goldwyn Lane you will be welcome to say everything you wanted to get off your chest, but if you want more than that, we can help you there too.
If you are suffering from stress, anxiety, depression, worry, trauma, grief, etc., you will be given strategies to lighten the load and get you back to living a normal life.
Depending on your need and what you find comfortable in your sessions you may be offered just one form of therapy, or a number of different therapies.
These therapies include:
- Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
- Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Brief Solution Focused Therapy
- Psychodynamic Techniques
- Dreams Analysis
- Mindfulness
- Play Therapy
